Fave Finds

Here are this weeks favourite finds.

Watched this movie with the family this weekend and we all really enjoyed it.  Brad Pitt did a great job playing the part of Billy Beane and it was an interesting behind the scenes look at the Oakland A's.

This you tube video is amazing to watch, it is about a girl with autism that learns to type at the age 11 and is able to express her thoughts and feelings.  It is a good reminder for us all that just because someone may not be able to communicate clearly doesn't mean they are any less intelligent than we are.  I really hope she writes her book, I would love to read about what it is like to be inside the mind of a autistic child, I also think it would help me to do my job better and with even more understanding.

My favourite quote this week.

My favourite funny this week.

My favourite layout, which can be found here

And finally my favourite card can be found here.  I love the colour combination, they beautiful colouring and the design.

Day 3 and a layout (finally)

Today was day 3 of my doing the Jillian Michaels 30 day shred and boy was it a hard one.  All my muscles were screaming and my left knee really seems to be taking a beating.  I already have problems with that knee so I am thinking I may have to wear my tensor brace while I am working out, at least until it gets a bit stronger.  The jumping jacks are also killing my bladder, not sure what to do about that though.  I am hoping that after a few more days my muscles won't be screaming so much and I will be back to being able to move normally rather than like someone that has taken a beating.  I really am enjoying the workouts though and I find myself having more energy throughout the day which is great.

I finally had a chance to sit down and start working on my scrapbook from our trip down east this past summer, boy it's been a long time since I've done a layout.  Here is the layout I finished and I am pretty happy with it.  The picture isn't the greatest because I took it with my iPad but you get the idea.

Fave Finds

I love browsing through Pinterest, and reading all the blogs that I follow on Google Reader or on my iPad with Flipboard, so I thought every week I would share some of my favourite things that I have found on the internet throughout the week.

First off I am starting with my favourite image, although it was released last week, it still counts since this is my first week of Fave Finds.  I have absolutely fallen in love with Tiddly Inks Wryn images, they are so adorable.  Here is a card done by Amanda R for Tiddly Inks newest challenge.  Isn't Wryn adorable.

Finally got around to watching the movie The Help, it was amazing and I highly recommend it.  For those of you that haven't heard about it, it's about an aspiring author during the civil rights movement of the 1960's decides to write a book detailing the African-American maid's point of view on the white families for which they work, and the hardships they go through on a daily basis.

I found a recipe for Buffalo Wing Turkey Lettuce Wraps over at The Girl Who Ate Everything blog and it looks delicious, can't wait to give it a try.

I love love love this layout by Corrie over at You, Me & Crazy .  I love the colours, I love the design, I love the papers, I love everything about it.

This book that I heard about from Charlotte's Web of Books, The Baker's Daughter by Sarah McCoy sounds really good.  A brief description from her site:

The Baker's Daughter takes place in two different eras in two different worlds.  Elsie Schmidt is a young and naive seventeen year old girl in 1945 Germany.  She has been invited to attend a Christmas celebration with an officer or Hitler's army, a young man who has been courting Elsie for some time. She thinks nothing of this gentleman, but is eager for her first taste of champagne.  Sheltered herself, from the atrocities of the war, Elsie gets her first real taste of what the war really means when she finds herself rescuing the young Jewish boy who sang at dinner from being forced to return to the Camps.  Her act of kindness that night changes the course of her life in ways that she never thought possible.

Flash forward sixty years to Texas and you will find Elsie and her daughter Jane running a bakery using the same recipes that Elsie's family used in their bakery all of those years ago.  A young reporter enters their bakery looking to interview Elsie for a piece she is doing on cultural Christmas traditions.  But as Elsie tells her story to Reba, Reba learns far more about love and loss than she ever thought possible.  Will Elsie's tale help Reba decide which way to go with her own relationship?

I'm not sure how much of a fave this is at this point but I started Jillian Michaels 30 day shred this week.  The level 1 workout is tough, I can't imagine what the next two levels are going to be like but I am trying not to think about them.  I am still struggling to get through the workout but I am hoping that gets better with time.  I do feel better afterwards though, once I can feel my legs and arms again anyway.

Finally here is my fave colour combo for the week.  I really like using the Design Seeds website for colour inspiration for scrapbooking, cardmaking and home decorating.

One Little Word - January

As I mentioned in my earlier post I am participating in Ali Edwards One Little Word class this year and the word I have chosen is Peace.  I am really hoping I stick with it for the entire year, sometimes I have problems following through on projects I start.  I have completed the prompts for January and have scrapbooked them.  I am using a 8.5 x 8.5 album I had on hand and am also trying to use up the scraps and supplies I already own.
My Title page.

I still need to print the photo for the left page

January Prompts

Why I chose the word Peace.

Here is the quotation I choose:

You are goodness and mercy and compassion and understanding. You are peace and joy and light. You are forgiveness and patience, strength and courage, a helper in time of need, a comforter in time of sorrow, a healer in time of injury, a teacher in times of confusion. You are the
deepest wisdom and the highest truth; the greatest peace and the grandest love. You are these things. And in moments of your life you have known yourself as these things. Choose now to know yourself as these things always.

PopBooth on New Years Eve.

I Took these pictures of Linda and I enjoying New Years Eve with the pop booth app on my new iPad. Linda and I met while waiting for our kids after school one day 6 years ago and we have become good friends, as have our husbands. We had a blast with the app, playing games and enjoying the festivities. Both kids had friends sleep over and they had fun watching movies, playing games and bringing in the new year together.

Happy New Year

Welcome to 2012, it's a new year and time for a fresh start both on this blog and in life. I can't say that I am sad to see 2011 go. Although there were many wonderful highlights to the year such as graduating and getting a full time position with the school board there were also a lot of bumps throughout the year. The main one being the loss of a friendship that I held dear to my heart, I am still working on coming to terms with what happened there.

I have decided to take part in Ali Edwards One Little Word over at Big Picture Classes and I have chosen the word PEACE for 2012. Peace affects so many different aspects of my life, work, home, relationships, inner feelings etc. I am looking forward to taking the journey with my word and I am hoping to document the journey on my blog.

I am not sure what direction this blog is going to go in, I will still post some of my layouts and cards but I am also planning to include more of my personal journey as well. Here's to 2012 and having a wonderful year.
